In the UK electricity system, a data collector (DC) is responsible for determining the electricity consumption of supplies.
For half-hourly metered supplies, the HHDC retrieves the energy consumption data from the meter and makes any necessary estimates. The HH data is a history of the supply’s consumption for each half-hour.
A half hourly meter (HHM) registers how much electricity is used on a site for every half hour of every day. They typically have a GSM connection to provide this data to Data Collector/Aggregators automatically each month.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a mandatory carbon emissions trading scheme placing several large energy monitoring and reporting burdens on organisations with half hourly metered sites. The scheme uses half hourly electricity meters to determine whether or not organisations qualify for the scheme.
Sites with a peak load above 100kW need “half-hourly” meters which record total consumption every half-hour and pass the information to the Data Collector/Aggregator.
For non-half-hourly metered supplies, the NHHDC determines the consumption by calculating the advance (the difference between the last two meter reads, this is annualised to produce an annual advance (AA), this being the data the supplier will pay on).
The NHHDC is also responsible determining the estimated annual consumption (EAC), which is a forecast for a year ahead. The EAC is initially provided by the supplier, and thereafter forecast based on actual meter readings.
Data from the DC (EAC/ AA’s) is provided to the non half hourly data aggregator, which aggregates the individual values provided into a single figure split in a number of ways e.g. geographically, geographically & supplier or supplier. This aggregated data is then provided to the Central Systems, maintained by Elexon, to determine the value of energy which has been used by suppliers so that they are able to settle with the distribution network which generated the energy. The process is known as balancing and settlement and falls under the balancing and settlement code (BSC).
Supplies under 100kVA are usually Non Half-Hourly (NHH) metered, using standard meters that are read manually, or meters that feature Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology.
Data Collection
In order for us to obtain your data feeds from your main half hourly meter we would need a letter of authority from you.
You can download the Letter of Authority Document for obtaining data feeds by clicking here for PDF version.
Account information
If you wish for us to receive current and historical account information including consumption history, supply numbers, pricing details, contract end dates. You can download the Letter of Authority Document for concerningthis by clicking here for PDF version.
Simply e-mail back your acceptance of this offer to savings@envantage.co.uk and the signed letter of authority letter.
